| The University at Buffalo is uniquely positioned to host the Shale Resources and Society Institute, as it offers established programs that can address all aspects of shale gas and oil development, including geology, environmental geochemistry, engineering, law, anthropology, political science, and urban/regional planning. Furthermore, UB is a large, comprehensive public university with no institutional conflicts, property or vested interest in the Marcellus or Utica Shale plays — unlike industry or advocacy-based groups. Thus, it is well equipped to be a purveyor of sound, unbiased information. |
