Over the next three years, it is estimated that the Institute will require $1.14 million in startup funding. Staff support, office space and other resources are being provided by the UB Department of Geology. The UB Geology Alumni Advisory Board and extended alumni network have been intimately involved in the development of the Institute’s current plans, and thus represent an “intellectual cost-sharing.” The alumni represent numerous local corporations involved in energy resource exploration and management, as well as environmental and engineering consulting. These alumni have worked to increase the knowledge of the SRSI network idea with environmental and government concerns throughout the state. Looking ahead, sources of support for the Institute are expected to include income from grants and contracts, as well as memberships. The work of the Institute will remain objective regardless of funding source. |
